Somewhere we’ve been

Daisy Laing Gallery

8th - 19th November 2022

A series of paintings exploring the playful collision between landscape and architecture

The paintings are a positive force for change, a glimmer of hope in grey times, the shapes and colours map out a new visual landscape, based on memories of real places.

We must have walked around our park 100 times if not more during lockdown, but didn’t we all? These paintings came from a moment of motivation or perhaps the start of a new journey during 2020, or in hindsight a feeling of longing to be social.

During lockdown, landscape and architecture became precious. You noticed the chewing gum on the wall, the ray of light through columns, the brutalist angles in the shadows. Cracks in the pavement with unruly wildflowers became a highlight, and comparing the number of cars in the local car hire plot compared to the week before was the new routine.

The paintings are a culmination, or in essence a way of depicting the above, a new perspective on space, routine and not taking things for granted.
